About 7 years ago I used to consult for GiftBasketsOverseas, but haven't had any relationship since then. I now have some friends in Mexico where I visit regularly and needed to send a gift. Because I worked with them I was familiar with the process and felt confident that this is the right solution.
I purchased a thank you gift basket for someone I had just visited in Mexico and not only did it arrive a day early (which was good for this situation), but the gift basket was bigger and had more than what the picture showed on the website.
I've used this service for Puerto Viejo Costa Rica and other places over the years and never had an issue. There will always be some unknowns when sending gifts overseas, but the constant communication they set up is what calms my nerves. I couldn't be happier with this experience.

What Unique Holiday Traditions in Panama Should I Know About?
Celebrations in Panama are no small affair. Due to its prime geographical location and eclectic mix of cultural and religious backgrounds, holidays in Panama often turn into massive parties. It’s important to note that the traditions played out in one region may not necessarily play out the same way in another part of the country. Nevertheless, Panamanians are a people that take their holiday traditions seriously. Streets shut down, people dress up in costumes, businesses close, and locals gather in huge groups to celebrate their culture.
Roman Catholicism is the predominant religion practiced in Panama, so it is not uncommon for many of Panama’s festivals and holidays to fall around the holy days within the Christian faith.
We have selected a list of the most unique holiday traditions in Panama to help you choose the best time to send a gift to your friends and family.
Carnival — Carnival is the largest and most anticipated festival in Panama. During the four days preceding Ash Wednesday, locals move through the cities of Panama, celebrating with food, gifts, dancing, music, and drink. Carnival celebrations climax on the Tuesday preceding Ash Wednesday, so be sure to send your gift before the festival’s last day. Sending a gift of quality alcohol to your friends in Panama during this period is a great way to remind them you care and share in a part of their celebrations.
Easter — Easter is one of the most celebrated religious holidays in Panama. Almost every community in the country comes together to commemorate the death and resurrection of Jesus. During this time, it is common for locals to drink cocoa and eat local bread made of candied fruits and vanilla. Sending a basket of treats around Easter is a great way to surprise your family and friends.
Azuero International Fair — Held from late April to early May, the Azuero International Fair is a massive festival that attracts people worldwide. The fair focuses on sharing Panama’s rich agricultural, livestock, and cultural traditions. Surprise your friends and family with a bouquet of flowers or a basket of Panamanian treats to join in the annual festivities. Build your own basket to send to Panama by selecting the gourmet treats you’d like your friends and family to enjoy!
How Are Birthdays Celebrated in Panama?
It’s important to note that birthday celebrations in Panama are taken very seriously. Friends, family members, and extended family are invited to huge parties that can host up to 100 guests. Sending a birthday gift to your friend in Panama is a sure way to make them feel loved and appreciated. Before selecting a gift, it’s important to consider how birthdays are celebrated in Panamanian culture.
It is common for kids’ birthday parties to be celebrated at school, and most parents will write on the invitation card what gifts they would like their child to receive. Toys, clothing, gift cards, and ‘rain of envelopes,’ meaning cash gifts, are some of the items you will find on the list.
Another Panamanian tradition is to sing the birthday song in English and Spanish. A fun way to participate in this tradition is to send your birthday card in Spanish text. If you are sending a gift to your loved one, be sure to order early so that your present arrives on the day of the birthday.
Are There Special Rules for Sending Business Gifts to Panama?
Panamanian business culture is strongly influenced by Latin American and North American traditions and values. It is common for business relationships to be developed as personal relationships, and gifts are a thoughtful way to build a solid and lasting connection with your colleague.
Locals do not have formal ceremonies surrounding gift-giving; however, the way to make a good first impression is to select gifts that honor the traditions and values of the country. While most Panamanians speak English, an effort to send your business cards printed in both English and Spanish is viewed as a sign of respect for the country’s official language. Always present cards with the Spanish text facing upright. Titles are important, so learn the ancestral name of your business clients since Panamanian names commonly contain the last names of both the mother and the father.
When choosing a corporate gift, consider a business branded gift along with something that represents your own culture and country. Opt for a gift basket with artisan chocolates, well-known wines, or a bouquet of fresh flowers. This is a wonderful conversation starter and a way for potential clients to get to know you better. High-quality office supplies are always a good choice for business clients.

Chocolates, roses, and love poems are just a few ways to express your thoughts and feelings, but you can always choose to go the extra mile. Sending a stunning white orchid, which is
Panama’s national flower, along with a bottle of perfume or a beautiful piece of jewelry, will surely help you stand out. Do not send bouquets with strictly white or yellow flowers, as those are associated with funerals.

How to Write the Address for Delivery to Panama
When writing an address for delivery to Panama, you’ll find that many people have both a P.O. Box and physical address. For the purposes of sending gifts, you’ll want to use their physical address. Additionally, postal codes were only introduced in 2007; because of the recent change, it is still common for addresses to be written without the postal code, and most couriers will not have an issue. This is because couriers also require a phone number for delivery so that they can get in touch with the recipient. In order to write an address for delivery in Panama, you’ll need the following:
Recipient name
Business name (if applicable)
Street address, along with floor and apartment number (if applicable)
City, province, and postal code
Country
So an address in Panama will look something like this:
Susan Dove
12 Rosa Street Apartment 4
David, Chiriqui 0401

Quick Review of Gift-Giving Etiquette in Panama
Cultural symbolism and awareness will influence your choice of gifts and wrapping paper. Do not send gifts with black or purple wrapping as it is only used during the Holy Week.
Handkerchiefs and yellow or white flowers are generally associated with funerals or death.
Sharp items such as scissors or knives should not be given, as they symbolically represent the severing of a relationship.
